Waking the Titanic plot
"An Irish town's tragic destiny"
This is the story of fourteen Irish immigrants from a small village who sailed on the first and last voyage of the Titanic in 1912. Addergoole, County Mayo had fewer than 100 inhabitants when the fourteen immigrants left for America together. The promises of work lured them away from home and hearth. This documentary tells their stories through interviews and a re-enactment of that fateful night in April when the ship struck an iceberg and more than 1,000 passengers died, most of them from exposure to the icy water. Detailed background information is provided on conditions in Ireland and the conditions the group would likely encounter in America.
