Mindcage plot

"The art of the kill."

The Artist is a serial killer known for the artistic staging of his murders. Although he is in prison, murders that resemble his work still take place. Detectives Jake Doyle and Mary Kelly suspect it's an impersonator and enlist the help of the Artist. As Mary searches for clues in the Artist's brilliant but horribly twisted mind, she and Jake are drawn into a diabolical cat-and-mouse game. In a race against time, the detectives must do their very best to stay one step ahead of both serial killers.

A series of bizarre murders brings veteran cop Jake Doyle [Martin Lawrence] so reminiscent of the work of serial killer Arnaud "The Artist" Lafeuvre [John Malkovic] that the perpetrator must have had personal contact with Lafeuvre. Jake's younger partner Mary [Melissa Roxburgh] pitches in to persuade Lafeuvre to cooperate with the investigation, but she is about to be executed and deviously uses his position of power. Malkovich is perfect for this role, but the screenplay borrows too much from The Silence of the Lambs. Not so bad in itself, until the idiotic denouement kills the matter.

At some moments I thought for a moment: ooh, this is starting to get exciting! Only to see/hear something like: huh? How do they know that, I didn't miss anything/see anything happen? Or.. that's not possible, not logical, how stupid!

Disappointment, sadness, not a good film, not credible.

Less than weak tea. In other words, Silence Of The Lambs in a tasteless reli-sauce. What a waste and creative poverty.
