This Christmastime, Noelle, a waitress, is focused on getting her only offspring, the pre-teen Henry, a Merry Christmas as it's the first since she and Henry's father Greg divorced. Noelle, who has primary custody of Henry, is unaware that he has misbehaved, in part because of the ongoing feud between her and Greg. The final point of contention is that Greg wants Henry to spend Christmas Day with him and his fiancée Rita in what used to be their childhood home—which Greg considers a more stable environment—despite that day being legally Noelle's with Henry.
