Doll House plot
Rustin is the lead singer of a rock band. He is a drug addict and wants to change his life forever. He left his wife and child years ago and now decides to reconcile with them or at least find out more about them and what he has been missing. He disguises himself as Clyde and tries to build a relationship with his daughter Yumi. He also learns that his wife has died while trying to become a better father.

With a Filipino girlfriend this is of course a nice mix between the Philippines and the Netherlands. It really is a slow drama film with some funny father/daughter parts. Although it is completely different from "our" Dutch films and is spoken almost entirely in Tagalog (a few words of English and Dutch), the film remains fascinating and therefore a passing grade.

Sympathetic tearjerker about an absent father who gets the chance to spend time with his daughter. 'Doll House' (2022) actually depends entirely on the chemistry between addicted rocker Rustin (Baron Geisler) and the extremely cute girl Yumi (Althea Rumidas) who cannot understand why she has such a strong bond with her new uncle. They make funny faces at each other or play fun games. There is plenty to criticize about 'Doll House' (2022) such as the cheap television quality and a forced sentimental plot, but I wiped tears from the corners of my eyes at several moments. And 'Doll House' (2022) has a Dutch touch because it was shot almost entirely in our country. There is something infectious about seeing stroopwafels, jumbo bags, red bricks and ditches & canals in a non-Western production.
