Ottomans vs Venetians: Battle for Crete plot

The island of Crete is located at the crossroads of the Eastern Mediterranean. Its long and vibrant history has seen the country occupied by many ancient empires: Minoan, Greek, Roman, Arab and Byzantium. More recently, Crete was ruled for 700 years by two other great empires, the Venetian Empire and the Ottoman Empire. In this documentary, filmmaker Ian Cross examines the traces of 450 years of Venetian rule, beginning in the 13th century, when Crete became the most important colony due to its strategic location between vital sea trade routes.
