In 1964, animal trainer Jim Goodwin travels through the United States with his chimpanzee Spanky. Among the television viewing public, they are known for their itinerant entertainment show. On the way they pick up Bobby Falls with whom they spend days on route 66. Jim and Spanky are unaware that Bobby is a serial killer.

During a stop in Death Valley in 1964, Jim [Zachary Quinto] gives a ride to Bobby [Jacob Elordi]. Bobby does not yet know that Jim has another passenger: the famous chimpanzee and circus performer Spanky [Phoenix Notary]. Moreover, he himself is not open about his true motives. This loose adaptation of a true story suffers from Quinto's mannered acting, the over-the-top flamboyant Elordi, and the peculiar visual effects used to bring Spanky to life: an unconvincing mix of an actor in a monkey suit and CGI effects.
