Not good.

Always a bit difficult with films that sell themselves as horror films, but are then more of a drama film with thriller elements. Of course it all exudes horror. That whole castle is screaming hints that we are in an environment that cannot be trusted. And yet it takes so long to get there.

LaBute flopped once before within this framework, and as far as I'm concerned he repeats that again with House of Darkness. Also strange that we find Justin Long in this film. If there was one kind of movie I don't see him appearing in, it's a horror movie. Of course this is not the first time he has encountered this genre, but I still see him more as a comedy actor. It is therefore not surprising that he is mainly used in the context of humour.

75 minutes long, a conversation between Long, Bosworth and Crovatin that slowly escalates as the evening passes. Perhaps nice if there was also some form of subcutaneous tension in between, but this film is rather a repetition of dead conversations that cannot be spiced up in any way. In my spare time I can also listen in real life to three annoying adults talking about small talk, but then I don't have to see it again on a virtual screen.

No, this was mostly a mockery. Nice ending, too bad you had to wait so long for it. I can say that the three members have acted well, but that compliment is difficult to give if you just can't bombard what they actually have to say. I think I quickly forgot about this movie. Perhaps LaBute should just stay away from the more exciting scenes, because otherwise he will create even more of this kind of sleep medicine.

Ah yes. Always watch out when you bring a girl home on a dissolute evening, and there appears to be something wrong with the mirrors, the light doesn't work, and her name is Mina. If another Lucy shows up, then it's really time to find a solid piece of ash wood - your daily morning wood may be too late.

It's always been a mystery to me why Kate Bosworth never made it to the mainstream blockbusters. She's obviously pretty fed up, she doesn't play very badly, and she must be overflowing with connections in Hollywood. Is it true that you have to do something metoo-like for a leading role and that she doesn't feel like it, you would almost think so. And with Justin Long it's kind of the same story, although maybe a little less pronounced. He is also a bit more into the Kevin Smith sphere, and that may explain enough in itself.

In any case, this production will not change that for both of them, it is all far too much just-not for that. And what is it then, that net-not? too little ambition, too little daring, too little self-confidence. If you don't believe in yourself that you're working on the most beautiful film of all time, the audience won't believe in it either. It radiates, and this film is perfect proof of that.

Too bad, because I think Kate really believes in it. As she almost always does, in all her films.
