Arsène Wenger: Invincible plot

"The definitive story in his own words."

Arsène Wenger, now in his early 70s, opens the film with some ideas about football, about how it's a scary thought that his life is completely devoted to this one area. This will be followed by his last game in the Emirates in 2018 (the home of Arsenal, and the conclusion of his 22 years as manager of the club). We hear the account of his "invincibles" read, and Wenger's sadness reflecting on the fact that the audience who cheered him showed love only at the moment of his professional "death".

"It's not about the ball, it's about people"

The documentary convincingly underlines the impact this man had on "his players" and British football, even putting Sir Alex Fergusson in his place in his most successful years.

Anyone who likes the soccer game should see this.

In 1996, French Arsène Wenger became the first non-British manager of a football club in the British Premier League. In his 12 years as manager, he had won the league title (1988) and the French Cup (1991) with AS Monaco, but fans did not know him. Nicknamed “Le Professeur” because of his academic background and those large glasses, he single-handedly revolutionized international football. Players were forced to follow a strict diet and Wenger brought in top players from abroad such as Patrick Vieira, Dennis Bergkamp and Thierry Henry, and in the 2003–04 season made an impossible promise come true by winning the title without losing a single league game. Wenger looks back on his youth, his career as a footballer, but especially on his time as manager of Arsenal. It can easily be divided into two chapters: “the heaven of Highbury” and “the hell of Emirates Stadium.” Fans will know why. It's a nice story, but Wenger has never been a charismatic media personality and as a result it's less compelling than, say, the BBC documentary series 'Sir Alex'.
