My Old School plot

Sixteen-year-old Brandon Lee seems like a model student: good marks, friendly to everyone and a real star on the school stage. Only he's not us he claims to be. How far would you go for a second chance to make your dream come true? Who is Brandon Lee really? And why did he pretend otherwise? A largely animated documentary, proving that reality is sometimes stranger than fiction.

In 1993, Brandon Lee enrolled at Bearsden Academy as a 16-year-old. Two years later it turned out that Brandon Lee was the alter ego of thirty-something Brian MacKinnon, who himself took lessons at Bearsden Academy as a teenager. Brian MacKinnon tells his story which is played back on camera by Alan Cumming and McLeod brings that story to life using animations. Classmates, teachers, and board members of Bearsden Academy tell a story that differs from MacKinnon's in several ways. That in itself is not startling, until McLeod discovers video footage of a moment that everyone involved can perfectly remember. That moment confronts everyone involved with their perception of the truth and raises fascinating — and impossible to answer — questions about how and why that perception has been influenced in the more than 25 years since Brandon Lee was exposed.
