In the paranoid world of cryptocurrency, there is only one rule: don't trust anyone. When Gerry Cotten - the young founder of Canada's largest but failing cryptocurrency exchange QuadrigaCX - dies under mysterious circumstances, he takes the password of $250 million in client funds with him to the grave. Shocked investors refuse to believe this. They suspect that Garry's "death" has all the hallmarks of a scam, that Garry is still alive and has run off with their money. This documentary investigates the dark world where nobody and nothing is what it seems.

Gerald Cotten, along with Michael Patryn, was instrumental in the founding of Quadriga CX, which quickly grew into the leading Canadian cryptocurrency exchange. Cotten ran the exchange largely by himself from his laptop, so when he suddenly passed away in 2018 while staying in India, panic ensued among his clients. It turned out that Cotten had taken the passwords granting access to $250 million in capital to his grave. Sewell looks back on the history of Quadriga CX and attempts to uncover what happened to the money of the approximately 115,000 users that was lost. There is hardly any visual material, so Sewell is relegated to talking heads. But the story is captivating, partly because of the fertile ground it provides for conspiracy theories, and insider QCXINT lends an extra dose of mystery to this bizarre tale with his wolf mask and distorted voice.
