Meh.

Not exactly a special variant on the alien genre. A film that is a bit of a mix between adult horror and children's film. A combination that just doesn't really go well together, because the horror becomes rather childish with it, but the film is actually a bit too graphic to be drawn by young people.

The problem with the film is that the children are almost completely talentless. No one can read really enthusiastic dialogues, which makes the film constantly seem disinterested and unfeeling. The fact that the film then comes to life once the danger comes to the surface is rather due to the plot, because the children just don't seem to feel like it.

Then the film starts quite mysteriously. The kids are stupid, the alien is strange and all in all things go smoothly. Must say I did enjoy seeing all those misshapen things. It's not super creative, but director Innuksuk is at least looking for it in a separate corner and I can appreciate that. It makes the film a whole lot easier to swallow.

Furthermore, the film continues slowly and works towards a finale that looks nice but is not very exciting. I found the choice of location to have something authentic. Filmed in 2019 on Baffin Island, it gives a somewhat sad but striking atmosphere. Enough danger that can come from such a place, of course. The film is easy to get through and about enough horror, but the lifeless acting and too little visual effort make it a somewhat mediocre film.

It's nice to see a real Inuit movie that has genre elements. You notice that the actors do not have much experience and somewhere around 75% of the film the story is over. What remains is a kind of chase film in a mini village. I didn't find it really exciting. The effects were fine I must say and the acting performances are also fine. So just fine to do.

What kind of phones you guys have?

Fun, smooth and made with a lot of enthusiasm - and a lot more original than most of the dregs we get from Hollywood these days. The cast is unknown but the acting is nice and natural, no star allure or exaggerated fuss here. Authentic children from a small village, who are busy with the things that all children are busy with. And some aliens and stuff, of course.

Beautiful and convincing images of the village and the surrounding area, and the animals also come across convincingly - more so than with the usual CGI violence that seems to take us so far away from reality, actually. The aliens are also surprisingly original and creative. Too bad the gun is a bit too Hollywood at times and fires more shots than mechanically feasible. Yet that hardly detracts from the pleasure that radiates from the entire production.

More films like this, as far as I'm concerned.
