Better Nate Than Ever plot

"Every adventure begins with a dream."

Thirteen-year-old Nate Foster is an unpopular boy who has vivid fantasies of becoming a major musical star on Broadway. For example, he is unable to get a decent role in a stage production at school. He is cast as a tree in the choir instead of the lead role he craves. However, Nate is about to fulfill his life dream when his best friend Libby plans a daring trip to New York City. Together they want to audition for 'Lilo and Stitch: The Musical'. Before the moment arrives, Nate will have to overcome a series of obstacles.

Although musicals and broadway things don't interest me, this was actually a great movie. The lead actor does a nice job. It is a feel-good film that never really gets stale and the number of songs can be counted on one hand. In the end it all came easy for him. Time passed by in no time.

Can't get through.

Where this Rueby Wood came from was completely unclear to me, so I had to google it and found out that it comes from Broadway. It is ironic that in this film he is trying to get onto the Broadway stage. In any case, apparently no one really told him that all that theatrical stuff doesn't work so well on film.

It makes for a staggeringly annoying and tiring film experience, while the film is very light-hearted in tone. It goes very quickly and smoothly and there is a certain adventure involved. It's just a shame that what happens within that adventure is so incredibly annoying. Almost every movement or tone of Wood's is insufferable. Theatrical, exaggerated and intrusive.

Moreover, the direction is not exactly all there and little is taken from a radiant environment. Depicted slowly and languidly and executed without any creativity. The latter applies to both the content and the outside. It remains a rather flat film that promotes itself as a lot more interesting than it is, and that is certainly a loss with musicals.

Normally I wouldn't give this kind of film a catastrophically low grade, but the irritation that guy causes is a bit too much. I think it's a shame that we are now moving towards these types of films, but the consolation is that this has not become a hugely popular film. Not that I'm against the underlying message of the film, but if you portray yourself as the main character in this irritating way, I don't care anymore.
