Derby Day plot
On the morning of the Epsom Derby, an annual horse race, a disparate group of people prepare to head to the racecourse. For example, Helen Forbes, a newly widowed aristocrat, plans to go there despite the disapproval of her social circle. David Scott, a cartoonist for a newspaper, is ordered by his editor to visit the racecourse, but he doesn't want to. Debauched movie star Gerald Berkeley has to escort a wealthy lady to the race as part of a charity lottery. However, she falls and injures her leg. Finally, deserter Tommy Dillon tries to leave the country safely with his beloved Betty. However, a horrible collision with her husband Jim throws a spanner in the works.
