Along the Way plot
On the border of Turkey and Iran, 19-year-old twin sisters Zahra and Fatimah lose their family and face various dilemmas. To survive in a hostile world of human traffickers and drug dealers, they face choices and dilemmas that severely test their symbiotic relationship and conscience.

Mijke de Jong worked as a volunteer in Moria refugee camp on Lesbos and met the Afghan twin sisters Malihe and Nahid Rezaie there. This acquaintance resulted in this film in which the sisters play a dramatized version of themselves and in which other residents of Moria take on the other roles. The idea is intriguing, but the use of amateurs is a disadvantage here, also because the dividing line between reality (the true story of the twins) and fiction (they play fictional characters and co-wrote the screenplay) is unclear here. A well-intentioned project that has certainly been valuable for the refugees involved, but is not very convincing for the more neutral viewer.

Cinematographically nothing special and the story is actually exactly what you expect, rather straight forward.
However, the credibility of the characters and the charisma of the twins give a pleasant twist to the whole.
