The Hanging Sun plot
After betraying a mob boss, also his father, hit man John is on the run. He moves north where he resides in a deeply religious village. It is a curious place where the midnight sun reigns and the villagers of another era seem to have run away. John is introduced to Lea and her son Caleb and comes to terms with his conscience.

A rather brooding story that takes place in a godforsaken and strange village where the sun doesn't shine - maybe it's very beautiful there, but we don't see anything of that. Charles Dance plays along, but shows little more than his well-known strict mombakkes, Brown Findlay mainly succeeds in conveying that she is deeply unhappy and Borghi remains mysterious throughout the entire playing time.
Now that would all be fine, but it doesn't come across as if all of these were definitely conscious choices. Just as there may be details in the story that I missed, but it really isn't worth a second viewing. It's not that kind of movie.
