In the 1920s, young Clarice Cliff works in the factory. Driven by ambition, the creative Clarice regularly changes workplaces, despite the financial consequences she bears with her mother and younger sister. Time and again she takes big risks, but she manages to impress her eccentric boss Colley Shorter with her pottery and innovative ideas. Clarice also breaks the glass ceiling.

You must have been a very special potter that people would come up with the idea of making a film about your career. I'm not very familiar with that world, so this feel-good film didn't do much for me. But it must be said: Phoebe Dynevor is a charming protagonist.

In the 1920s, sisters Dorothy [Darci Shaw] and Clarice Cliff [Phoebe Dynevor] work full-time at a pottery factory to keep a roof over their heads and those of their mother [Kerry Fox]. Out of dissatisfaction with the fact that men think they know what kind of pottery women buy, Clarice decides to express her criticism to the board members. Her idiosyncratic ideas don't sit well with the old men who decide what gets made, except factory owner Colley Shorter [Matthew Goode], who is looking for a way to become an industry leader. Dynevor plays Clarice with an appropriate mix of charm and combativeness in this entertaining, but dramatically flat historical drama about a woman who managed to break down a male stronghold by giving women a voice. During the end credits you hear fragments from audio interviews with people who experienced it up close in real life.
