Teenager Olga [Anasstasiia Budiashkina] is part of the Ukrainian gymnastics team, until she and her mother Catherine [Stéphanie Chuat] are run off the road by strangers. Although they escape unscathed, Catherine immediately realizes that her work as a journalist and her critical attitude towards the government have put her daughter's life in danger. That is why she sends Olga to Switzerland where she ends up with a host family. If she becomes naturalized she has a good chance of gymnastics at the highest level on behalf of Switzerland, but Olga notices from her sporadic contacts with her mother and her best friend (and also top gymnast) Steffi [Caterina Barloggio] how great the distance between her and has become her homeland. Very well acted and sublimely edited with extremely convincing and beautifully filmed gymnastics scenes. But the screenplay fluctuates somewhat uncomfortably between sports drama and political drama, which means that it does not come into its own, especially in the latter area. Technically fantastic, substantively and dramatically a bit on the flat side.

Surprising mix of sports and political drama with beautiful images of top gymnasts on the one hand and authentic images of the bloody events on Maidan Square in Kiev in 2013/14 on the other.

Director Grappe cleverly interweaves the two themes, resulting in a captivating film drama that, given the current war in Ukraine, still has topical value. Impressive performance by the gymnast Anastasia Budiashkina, which happens after all she has been standing in front of the cameras for years.

More than background, the Ukrainian popular uprising in 2013 against Russian family policies is also an important event in Olga's life, eager to achieve a good result in a European gymnastics competition but equally concerned with the deadly threats surrounding her mother and girlfriend.

Beautiful sports images interspersed with fragments of war violence.

Very convincing acting.
