Plans to build an oil pipeline that will create at least 10,000 jobs are thwarted by residents of the Standing Rock Indian Reservation. The construction not only violates a treaty, but also threatens to spoil the local drinking water. An editor [Frances Fisher] of the Hollywood Daily approaches freelance journalist Daniel McKinney [William Mapother], a war veteran and Republican, to report. With the help of contact Elliot [David Arquette], the newspaper believes Daniel's report will line up behind the oil industry. Daniel is easily influenced at first, until he meets activist Mika [Kerry Knuppe]. Moreover, through her he comes into contact with other people who stand up for the local population, which influences his opinion and inevitably the content of his articles. One-sided reconstruction of a bitter battle against the oil industry with several people directly involved in the cast (including Knuppe). Joshua and Rebecca Tickell wisely focus more on the local population than on the political machinations, and Mapother's down-to-earth portrayal keeps this film with its social message grounded.
