Great to see another Henry Selick movie. The man previously made gems such as The Nightmare Before Christmas and Coraline. He co-wrote the script with Jordan Peele, who we know from gems like Get Out, Us and Nope. Despite the big names, I don't think there was much advertising in advance. And it remains a pity that such a film will not get a cinema release and will only have to do it on streaming services.
Visually, this film is in line with Selick's previous films. Always nice to see how in that case CGI is only used when it is necessary and a more creative style is used as much as possible. The film itself has less charm than its predecessors, but with a pleasant story and the necessary humor here and there, it has become quite a successful film. It would be a shame if this movie fell into oblivion.

Mediocre stop motion work by director Henry Selick, once responsible for the superior Nightmare Before Christmas. This definitely has the style and atmosphere of that film, but unfortunately does not captivate anywhere. Plot and characters are on the boring side and the voice cast (including writer/producer Jordan Peele) is unremarkable. It all looks great in terms of animation and use of color, but it falls short in every other area.
