Jacques Cousteau is known all over the world as the French sea adventurer in a red cap aboard his ship Calypso. His groundbreaking films and TV series opened the eyes of the world to the undersea empire. He became a devoted conservationist and founded The Cousteau Society to conserve marine life. We gain insight into key figures around Cousteau, including his first wife Simone and their sons Jean-Michel and Philippe, whose family life has mainly revolved around sea. We hear perspectives on his career from fellow divers and filmmakers. His famous early collaborator Louis Malle attests to Cousteau's talents as a director that earned him both the Palme d'Or and the Oscar for his 1956 film The Silent World.
