Great film adaptation of a piece of history that still intrigues me. A rather hypocritical period behind the wall, where moral knights rule and a click culture hangs over society like a haze. It is also interesting to note in this film how they can attract certain interesting profiles by giving them all kinds of (material) privileges, making it (more) difficult to distance themselves from them.

And you often find yourself in a position where you have to choose sides. You are either for or against and there is no way back. The main character is a great character. An average man who is recruited by the state because of his intelligence. Knowing the condition, he accepts the offer and suspects that everything will not be too bad. It is interesting how the conflict of conscience builds up. The character Dirk is also very interesting and functions as a kind of alter ego, his opposite.

The fact that you already know in advance how the story ends makes this film less impressive than Das Leben der Andere (2006). Once again it revolves around the machinations of the Stasi, causing a man to become trapped. Lars Eidinger plays a versatile role.

The case was further complicated because, after German reunification, the prosecutor and the judge were themselves charged and convicted for their role in this lawsuit.
