Mario Mieli was one of the founders of the Italian gay movement, which emerged in the early 1970s. He was a key figure in the Italian cultural scene as an activist, intellectual, writer and actor. He had a complicated relationship with his parents. But also with his partner, Umberto Pasti, with whom he had an intense love affair towards the end of his career.
