"Trust the journey."

Finley is not your typical eighteen-year-old girl. She is witty, tough, talented and driven. After a fateful violin audition at a prestigious music conservatory in New York, she decides to travel to Ireland. At the B&B run by her host family, she meets movie star and heartthrob Beckett. They soon fall in love, but when the pressures of Beckett's stardom threaten to crush their dreams, Finley must decide what she's willing to risk for love.

The scene where “fiddler” Seamus invites Rose to play with the band during a visit to a pub brings back fond memories of the wonderfully convivial evenings I spent in Ireland. It has left me with a soft spot for Ireland and its hospitable people.

That may distort my assessment of this layered film about an American student who wants to rediscover herself in Ireland and in passing unintentionally gets involved in a family feud between two old sisters. The only downside I find is the clichéd handling of the romance between the student and a celebrated film star. Nevertheless, I enjoyed it very much. But then again, when it comes to Ireland I am hopelessly prejudiced.

Meh meh meh. All very mediocre. The Irish setting is used optimally and that keeps the film somewhat alive. The plot is so chewed up that there was nothing to experience here. Clichés in this genre are inevitable, but it was all so obvious and the dilemmas all felt so artificial. I just couldn't do enough with it. Finding You didn't manage to convey the chemistry well.

2.5*

A tame romantic drama with good acting by Rose Reid and Jedidiah Goodacre, but a film with few surprises. Finding You mainly has a disadvantage in the fairly drawn-out playing time that almost approaches two hours, while the content is anything but complex or ambitious. Nevertheless, director Brian Baugh does his best to cover as much as possible in as little time as possible, which makes a number of side paths feel superfluous or even unnecessary. The story about the two sisters who have to forgive each other, for example, adds little added value, but the Irish landscape is otherwise well-depicted and the acting is convincing. Baugh does not allow himself to be seduced into clumsy romance, which means that the created world always remains sympathetic. Fine for once, even if the event is a bit on the long side.
