Quinn Jackson is the main bright spot of It Cuts Deep and plays off her male colleagues with great ease. The biggest downer of the film is perhaps the (or lack of) input from director Nicholas Santos himself, who within his position barely manages to add anything of value to the final whole. There is no threatening atmosphere anywhere and visually it is striking that significantly few details are mixed into the environment. Nevertheless, the fairly absurd tone ensures that the spectacle between Jackson and Charles Gould remains somewhat interesting, but it also ensures that the comic tone overwhelms the built-up tension. The plot twist is not exactly surprising, but the finale flows quite nicely, unlike the rest of the film. Moreover, the awkward situations between the couple work very well, keeping you as a viewer alert at all times. It Cuts Deep is a fairly dry registration in which the visual direction is too poor to create a truly uncomfortable atmosphere.
