The Christmas Chronicles: Part Two plot

"The battle to save Christmas is on."

Two years ago, Kate (Darby Camp) and Teddy Pierce (Judah Lewis) saved Christmas with Santa. Much has changed since then. Kate has meanwhile become a cynical teenager and is strongly opposed to the new composition of the family. Reluctantly, she spends Christmas with her mother, her mother's new boyfriend and his son Jack (Jahzir Bruno) in Cancun when she decides to run away. When a villain (Belsnickel) suddenly appears and threatens to destroy the North Pole, Kate and Jack must once again team up with Santa to save the Christmas party.

The first one was doable, but this one is really terrible. An annoying villain, an annoying sidekick, studio shots that would have looked bad in the 60s, a cliche storyline that made me feel déjà vu because I was recently watching the same plot on Mel Gibson's Fatman.

Sigh... only bright spots are Kurt Russell and Darby Camp. Hopefully they'll leave it at that.

Ouch, what a big mistake this sequel to the nice first part.

It's not Kurt Russell's fault. He is clearly having fun and, it must be said, 'Snake Plissken' is a very nice Santa Claus. Then that script that really goes in all directions, lousy CGI and child actors who almost read the lyrics. Truly abominable. And then the film also lasts endlessly long with that time plot that really makes no sense because the outcome is not deserved.

Ugh, 1,5 *en. And then I'm generous.

Big disappointment

The first movie was so much fun, that's why I gave it a 4.0. But this movie doesn't touch me at all. And then part 2 is also directed by Chris Columbus, the man of the best Christmas movie ever (Home Alone 1 and 2) and the magical first parts of Harry Potter.

The story just isn't fun and lacks the fun and vibe of the first part. Both the actor and the character 'Belsnickel' would have liked me completely. What an incredibly annoying actor that was.
That singing in the airport (and at the end was also cringe-inducing. Both the Belsnickel actor and that little boy can take acting lessons, because they looked like two robots. Although Tyrese Gibson only had a small role I thought it was miscast, I would rather have seen someone there who plays a lot in comedies: Chris Rock, Eddie Murphy, Kevin Hart etc.

Not everything is wrong with the movie. For example, Kurt Russell is very nice as Santa Claus. It's also nice to see his real wife, Goldie Hawn (who is 75 and still looks really good!), in a movie with him.
That little girl did it just like in the first movie, pretty nice. Finally, the magical fairy city. Very nicely done and which reminded me a bit of Harry Potter.

Hopefully 3 will get better. A tight 2.5*
