The story of Gustave Eiffel, about whom I also knew no more than his contributions to the Statue of Liberty and the Eiffel Tower. The story is about the construction of the Eiffel Tower along with a romantic storyline. Not much of a surprise, but that is made up for by the impressive decoration of the setting, costuming and cinematography. The camera sits on the shoulder of the characters and the whole is quite intimate and dark in that way. That makes the construction of the Eiffel Tower itself very impressive with the heights of the works. Even despite the predictable story, the film is exciting. So well done. Even though it never really gets special, I really admire the visual decoration. Well done!

I let this one pass me by in the cinema, but I still wanted to catch it because the fascinating structure that had to be finished by the 1889 world exhibition continued to excite me. In the meantime I found out that it was more of a romantic story and that tempered my expectations.

The work is sporadically discussed, but just enough to keep me glued to the screen. Of course the Eiffel Tower is more than a metal construction, but I was still surprised that it was so complex and technical. Also interesting was the presentation of other construction projects and the many protests of the Parisians who did not like this monstrosity.

The fictional love story could have been stolen from me before, but the film should perhaps appeal to a wider audience. For me, that costs the film stars anyway. More than decent for the rest.
