The Love Nest plot
After failing to marry the girl of his dreams, Buster feels lost and has nowhere to turn but the vast ocean aboard his small boat. However, he soon ends up on a large whaling ship. Here he is introduced to the hard life of a sailor as the ruthless captain discipline his crew at every opportunity. Can a rookie like Buster survive the rigors of the open sea?

Apparently the Buster Keaton shorts on my DVD are not in release order, but are just randomly scattered across the discs. I think The Playhouse is my favorite Keaton work in general and to see The Love Nest right after.. It's a bit disappointing. In itself a nice idea with Keaton who ends up on a ship as a sailor, but it all has just that little bit too little content. Fortunately, towards the end it gets a lot more fun with the shooting exercises of the navy but all in all a slightly lesser Keaton short. It was also the last short film Keaton would make, by the way, because in 1923 he would also come up with the great Our Hospitality and that heralded his feature films.

I saw them in order and that makes this the 32nd and last. And like the penultimate one, it's a good movie but not a pinnacle of Keaton's work.

One from Keaton's series, but certainly not his best short film. This time we follow him on a boat when he leaves from heartbreak and comes on a boat where he again experiences the necessary antics. Captain on duty is Joe Roberts who was seen more in Keaton's films. Literally to the end, because later that year he died right after making Our Hospitality, also with Keaton.
