A run-of-the-mill film. A thoroughly mediocre "ghost movie" that's not at all dark, and a terrible "exorcism" too. This is one of those movies I automatically watch, but it quickly becomes clear that I'm watching something rather dull, something that's filled with horror, but I still have that pleasant feeling. Soporific. A 4/10, that's all I can get.

Not good.

The fact that it's a bit of a vulgar cut-and-paste job isn't actually that big of a problem. People moving into a new house, in whatever form, always end up with the same kind of horror film. It's inherent in pure genre work that not a great deal of originality is expected in terms of concept and progression.

It's all about the execution, but that's precisely where this film fails quite badly. The acting is rather annoying (especially since the film's tone is rather serious and the actors really don't do a great job), the horror feels rather lazy and telegraphed, and the ghost itself looks ridiculous. The two directors simply fail to create the necessary atmosphere, so nothing really works.

And then 85 minutes is still quite long, because what else does a film like this have to offer? A decent location and some atmospheric lighting here and there. But unfortunately, it doesn't save the film as a whole. It's a skippable film, unless you really have no horror fodder left. Not good.

1.5*

An uninteresting horror film with a ridiculous concept and annoying characters. The relationships between the children and the adults are portrayed implausibly by directing duo Andrew Mecham and Matthew Whedon, and there's certainly no tension whatsoever. With a title like "Behind You," you might think so, but ultimately, little happens, and the characters mainly run away from threats that seem anything but intimidating. The story will likely be forgotten by many viewers in no time.
