The film portrays both his own and collective memories from the period in which the director grew up; the 60s and 70s of the 20th century in the industrial Polish city of Lodz. Literary characters, comic book heroes, relatives and friends wander through this gloomy labyrinth, comforting the protagonist and defying darkness and oblivion. Fleeing despair after losing his loved ones, the hero hides in a safe land of memories.
