Cool project from a director with a clear vision. All the more impressive that this is only a debut film. The whole retro SF aesthetic/vibe may not be super original (although I like it anyway), but Ickerman puts enough unique touches on it and the effects are surprisingly strong. I don't know the exact details, but I had the idea that there was still quite a budget behind this. Visually it is a wonderful color feast and especially when the film shifts up a gear towards the end it is enjoyable.

Yet also a few less strong elements that just keep me from 4 *. I find the episode structure a somewhat strange choice, I don't really see the added value of it. It is therefore somewhat disappointing that the film was in fact more than fifteen minutes shorter than the stated 50 minutes, since every single episode has at least 5 minutes of end credits. Furthermore, the soundtrack is actually a bit too good and timid. It naturally fits in seamlessly with the retro vibe that Ickerman is going for, but given the wide (over) representation of synth soundtracks in the current film landscape, it could have been a bit more distinctive. But these are just enlargements of relatively small flaws, the film is more than worth it.

3.5*

Abstract.

The fact that this is based or linked to a video clip can already be clearly determined by the quite large presence of colors, music and strange elements. The film certainly comes across as quite overwhelming in the beginning, but it should be clear that there are names behind it that want to achieve a lot with little.

Nice effects and world creation, though. Especially because the film does not feel very expensive and for that they have managed to create a nice event. It splashes with colors and creative design. Maybe they've just been a little too creative, because all the colorful happening almost completely drives any kind of red line or narrative off the track.

There are several attempts to make nice figures of the characters, but I thought it all came across as "edgy". No appearance really succeeds and the editing is also a bit slow. Besides, I don't see much benefit in that episode happening. Very annoying to have to scroll through the 5 minute credits all the time.

I see potential in it, but not much fun. After a while you get tired of those colors, and if other structural elements then start to irritate you, it is difficult to enjoy them normally. There are enough elements that can charm me as a viewer, but that is pushed away by enough other elements that do not work at all. In any case, better characters and a less floaty narrative could have done wonders.

As far as I know a unique concept, and beyond that also completely original in enough details to fill an entire universe. Brilliant design, perfect interplay of image, soundtrack and music. Narratively perhaps a disappointment for the casual viewer, but a wonderful surprise for those who want to open up - who want to see how many worlds, how many stories, how many films are summarized in a mere 50 minutes. The essence of the SF movie, condensed into a tour de force that knows no counterbalance.

Yes, I too find the profusion of titles disturbing.
