Threads of Time plot

China, mid 17th century. Rushi Liu is a renowned courtesan with a great sense of art and literature. She falls in love with the magistrate Zilong Chen, but he cannot marry her because she has a past as a prostitute. By chance, Rushi meets the learned diplomat Muzhai, who is much older than her. However, their mutual predilection for poetry brings them closer together. However, that relationship comes under pressure when the Ming dynasty is ousted…
