I found the development very thin, of course this doesn't have to be a breakfast club, but the characters barely came out and could have had more time.

Moderate children's thriller.

Conceptually Max Winslow shows quite potential. A colossal budget will probably not have been set aside for it, but certainly the more childlike films regularly show potential on a creative level. Director Olson cannot join that list with his outcome alone, because this film mainly looks bare and unimaginative. The title gives the impression that Max Winslow is an ongoing series, but I think that's just clumsy promotion.

The biggest asset is the house itself, which the whole concept should revolve around. You would think that this is typically such an exciting children's film, but I found it completely lacking in tension. It was absolutely not atmospheric, while Olson's ideas are quite diverse and offer enough guidance to take fun steps. However, it doesn't get much further than thin representations of the insecurities each character faces here. The limited representation of each story also doesn't make it feel like we're on a real adventure anywhere.

In terms of pace, Max Winslow is not a bad film. It is never really boring and despite the fact that it only comes out halfway, every character is diverse enough. It only sands in depth. Certainly Kelly and Genao hardly get any color, but actually everyone is too predictable. In addition, no really brilliant acting. Only Murray himself was quite charming, but his appearance is scarce. In conclusion, enough happens to keep the film interesting, it is even creative at times, but all in all Max Winslow is too lifeless a film. There are many other options that the kids will see more magic in.
