Brooklyn, September 13, 1939: Joel-Peter and Jerome Witkin are born, identical twins. Not only do they share the same genes and thus have the same appearance, they also both became artists: Joel-Peter is a photographer, Jerome a painter. And the resemblance continues: the work of both brothers is dark, sometimes downright macabre. This is where the similarities end. Joel-Peter often photographs disfigured people, a choice of subject that stems from his deep love for his disabled grandmother.
