Always Be My Maybe plot

"There's Always Been Something Between Them."

Childhood friends Sasha and Marcus broke up and haven't spoken to each other for 15 years. But when Sasha, now a celebrity chef in Los Angeles, returns to her hometown of San Francisco to open a new restaurant, she runs into her old boyfriend - a gleefully smug musician who still lives at home and works for his father. . Though the two are reluctant to reconnect, they soon find that the old sparks — and maybe some new ones — are there.

More or less standard boy-get-girl, boy-get-girl-not, boy-get-girl story. A handful of cute scenes and funny one-liners make the film stand out in the right direction. Bringing in Keanu Reeves doesn't do the film any good. Still, nice to see once.

On the one hand a typical rom-com, being love, quarrel and union and on the other hand atypical because of an atmosphere that I cannot describe. Maybe because of the Asian background. Not a topper in its genre, emotionally a bit superficial, but still easy to digest. The film starts off a bit stiff but improves towards the end. Lighthearted and entertaining.

The scenes with Keanu Reeves were especially hilarious. Cool that he can also put himself into perspective. Nice bonus for this movie.

Mediocre.

Not really my genre. Rather predictable, with the usual twists and turns that quickly turn characters who seem sympathetic at first into nasty types. The actors are okay though. Also fresh faces - the fact that I usually avoid these kinds of productions will also help. Not every choice or type is successful, but the protagonists do have a certain chemistry together. And if someone is looking for familiar faces: suddenly Keanu Reeves shows up. That's that again.

2.5
