Echo in the Canyon plot

"The birth of California sound"

“Echo in the Canyon” celebrates the explosion of popular music that emerged from LA's Laurel Canyon in the mid-1960s when folk went electric and The Byrds, The Beach Boys, Buffalo Springfield and The Mamas and the Papas gave birth to the California Sound . It was a time (1965 to 1967) when bands came to Los Angeles to pursue The Beatles. During this time, Laurel Canyon emerged as a hotbed of creativity and collaboration for a new generation of musicians who would soon leave an indelible mark on the history of American popular music.

The Laurel Canyon was a rustic neighborhood not far from Los Angeles where some of the most influential musicians lived in the late 1960s. The members of The Byrds, The Beach Boys, Buffalo Springfield, The Mamas and the Papas, among others, walked down the door and while enjoying sex, drink and drugs they made much of the best rock music the world has ever seen until dawn. has produced. The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and Eric Clapton were also welcome guests. The register of musical legends spoken in this documentary is impressive and their stories and amusing anecdotes are worth gold. Unfortunately, Slater wastes a lot of time on footage of the Echo in the Canyon Band trying to recreate the songs discussed in a decidedly unconvincing way.

Fun documentary that explores the history of legendary music (including The Byrds, The Beach Boys, Buffalo Springfield and The Mamas And The Papas) that originated in the Laurel Canyon neighborhood of Los Angeles in the mid-1960s. At the same time we see how Jakob Dylan (son of) organizes a concert to honor this music. The latter gets a bit too much attention as far as I'm concerned and the concert fragments sometimes nag a bit too long, but apart from that there is a lot to enjoy, with of course a lot of beautiful music and nice interviews.
