In short, this is one major indictment of the hypocrisy within the Catholic Church regarding sexuality, which threatens hell and damnation for something as simple as masturbation. The message makes more of an impression than the execution.

I always get the creeps about strict believers and the associated indoctrination. In the beginning it was a bit of a struggle, but gradually the film shows the hypocrisy and hypocrisy of these so-called "pious" people. Nice, although in my opinion they could have gone a little harder and it remains a bit on the good side. Shame.

Interesting, but not great. As mentioned, this is a coming of age film in which sexuality is discovered in a rather heavily Catholic environment in which sex is only allowed within marriage and only for the purpose of reproduction. And where of course the greatest people of virtue turn out to be the greatest hypocrites. The main character is ultimately quite innocent. All she does is masturbate, while the film of course invites greater 'debauchery'. What is nice is how she ultimately puts the pastor in his place. But in the end it all feels a bit too easy, it doesn't 'grind' enough. 2*.
