A year after the murder of her older sister Zoë, not all wounds have healed for Echo. She tries to stay strong but gets little support from her parents who are either on antidepressants or absorbed in work. Echo starts a new school year and receives a gift from Zoë's old boyfriend: her diary. Initially hesitant to read Zoe's mind, Echo becomes increasingly preoccupied with her sister's secret life.
