A team of seven researchers has developed software capable of predicting physical events. The last test, the prediction of the exact number of fragments when a glass falls, was a success. The team is invited to the mysterious island home of the reclusive Professor Cornelius. Arriving at the luxurious mansion, the host 'introduces' herself via videotape and tells them that they are part of a macabre experiment.

Very charming little film with an ingenious (and reasonably well-executed) gimmick, in which a mathematical formula is turned into a sadistic experiment, raising existential questions about destiny and free will, and in which a group of scientists must puzzle out how to survive.

Mysterious and suspenseful (in a light-hearted way) and in its execution clearly an homage to classic films from bygone eras: the grainy black and white, the constantly ominous soundtrack, the lighting/shadow play and even the somewhat theatrical acting all seem to nod to the silent era or the oppressive atmosphere of noir.

Never scary, so adjust your horror expectations. The film may not keep moving much between premise and denouement and it sometimes feels like waiting for the conclusion; there are some nice finds here and there, such as the videotape and later the painting. Certainly for a passion project of a select group (check the credits, in which a handful of names have taken on almost all production tasks) this is very digestible. A film that deals creatively with a seemingly low budget and convincingly manages to put modern ideas in an old jacket. Very entertaining.
