Urbanus: De Vuilnisheld plot
The adults of Tollembeek make a lucrative deal with a shadowy Russian: Igor can deposit hazardous waste in Tollembeek for a year and the inhabitants will be heavily paid for this. Urbanus sees this as the opportunity to buy a huge engagement ring to be able to marry Miss Pussy. But of course everything goes wrong and the children revolt against the plan of the adults...

Went to see this last Friday in Antwerp.
Surprisingly fun and anarchic work, especially considering that this is apparently considered a family film, given the child-oriented pre-cuts and trailers that were shown first. Since the room was only filled with adults (or - looking at myself - what passes for that) I thought that was very funny and then the main movie had to start! Are you all watching trailers of "De Fabeltjeskrant" and "Missing Link". haha!!
The film itself immediately started with a lot of speed and many jokes and hilarious situations followed each other in rapid succession. It was also striking and wonderfully refreshing that there was no mention of any political correctness or the adoption of generally accepted conventions and the plot thundered right through it all like an elephant in a china cabinet.
Halfway through it was perhaps a bit too much of a good thing and it became a bit tiring and perhaps a bit too much of the same, to then go into the "over the top" final with a lot of speed.
A definite plus I thought was that, in addition to the typical drawing style, the spirit and atmosphere of the original comics was captured very well and that certainly also applied to the characters that appear in it, especially Miss Pussy, of course, who stole the show (Wow!)!
In short: if you like a nice and crazy film and you have never really grown up, then this film is for you!
A big seven, or 3.5 stars.
PS: So one + one = ...eh...eh... we don't know!

I have a bit of a love-hate relationship with Urbanus. That's true with the character as the comics, but also with this animated movie. Here and there quite original and fine humor with puns and creativity, but unfortunately too inappropriate and especially inappropriate with absurdity (which is actually characteristic of Urbanus). But it's a kind of pipi-kaka humor that I don't like. The puns with, among others, the Quinten Tarantula and the “Quick, quick ... I'm not a refugee” were good.
In itself a nice story, tailored to what an Urbanus looks like, only at times some subplots that took me out of the swing, such as the tax authorities, for example. Animation was nice following the comics. Many characters pass in review, but most of them were just passers-by. Even Cesar and Euphrasia were poorly fleshed out. Not bad, not really good either. Nice to see once, but anything but memorable.

I haven't really read the comics, but saw this one and decided to give it a go. It was an entertaining movie though. The humor was a bit mixed, from underpants humor to puns.
The drawing style is a bit different from contemporary computer animations, but it certainly wasn't bad either.
It is not a real masterpiece, but it is still an entertaining film.
