Inland Sea plot
Like many parts of Japan, the fishing village of Ushimado is suffering from an aging population. Every day, Murata still takes his boat out to the inland sea that separates Honshu and Shikoku, two of Japan's main islands. He sells his catch at the local market. He shares a large amount with Koso, who runs the local fish trade and travels around the village in her van every day. She knows her clients' preferences and habits inside out and tells the filmmakers how long each of the vacant houses has been abandoned.
