Dirty God plot
Jade lives with her two-year-old daughter with her mother in a working-class area of London. In the prime of her life, an act of revenge by her ex left her with permanent scars. The vibrant nightlife was a weekly highlight for Jade and her friends, but nowadays she is faced with stares in clubs. This forces her to find a redefinition of beauty.

It's great that IFFR has chosen this English-language production by a Dutch director as the opening film of the 2019 festival. The film gnaws and continues to gnaw.
In the first place by Vicky Knight, who, in her debut, plays a woman who refuses to play a victim role, comes out with her mutilation and tries to build a 'normal' life. The tight screenplay contributes to this: "I refuse and want to live!" All other roles credibly reinforce her struggle to survive and be valued as a human being, including mutilation.
It seems to me that joostmeeuw saw a different movie than I did.

Dirty God is a film that wants to excel in heavy themes. Teenage parenting and battling with disabilities so far. Further sub themes with sexuality etc. goes a bit far in my opinion. The film is perfectly acted and it has the right setting but it loses itself in the message. That is nothing more than a doubt. Not bad but certainly not good.

Bravo Vicki Knight her Co- Stars, and even more respect as a burn survivor in real life. As a Firefighter I told my wife the scarring was more indicative of direct exposure to flame- not acid...! Well crafted, intelligent, and moving Script.
