Slender Man plot

"Can you see him?"

On a drizzly Friday night, four teenage girls are tempted to watch an internet video that allows them to summon Slender Man, a demon many viewers blame for the disappearance of children and the mental decline of everyone else who sees him. At first the girls don't take it too seriously, but when one of them disappears without a trace, they slowly but surely realize that the video was no joke.

Mediocre.

I already knew from the reviews and reviews that I wouldn't be surprised by this, but I don't think it's that bad that it is becoming a flop. White is a director who doesn't really have it in him in retrospect, so it's better to stop directing horror films.

Slender Man tries to create an atmosphere, but partly fails. Sometimes there is still a stylish scene, like the library scene and the stylish hospital hallucination scene. But in terms of suspense, the film largely fails. The "Slender Man" looks like a soccer hooligan with a sock over his head. So not really scary...

CGI fails a lot, and the actors and actresses mostly get a script that they can't really prove themselves with and that's why it gets a lot of teenage content. King and Telles save the film somewhat, but they really don't get enough to prove themselves with.

No real threat, no real atmosphere and little real tension. Sometimes a nice dream-like scene, reasonable acting and therefore gets a 2.0*.

To do.

In itself it is not even a very bad horror, but apparently it has the hype against it. Sony has largely taken care of that itself, of course. When you try to sell a basic horror movie like this as a major cinema event, don't be surprised when people expect a lot more from it.

Of course there is also a whole internet legend behind it, which are difficult to translate to the big screen because something like this lives mainly viral, not so much by the grace of some huge company that wants to make money out of it. When the first trailer (watched afterwards) also promises a lot more than the final film manages to offer ... well.

But without a background, it's just decent horror filler. Kind of the same concepts as Candyman, but with some Ringu influences. Acting is decent, visually it looks okay and although the tempo is not very high, it still manages to be atmospheric. The film really has to rely on that, because it doesn't get really exciting or nasty.

So it's doable for once, but given the Slender Man legacy, that's not enough for many.

3.0*

I completely missed the hype behind the net, so I went into this movie without any prior knowledge. Apart from the fact that he scores so low apparently. Slenderman is a mix between films like The Ring and It Follows. Horror according to the book with the necessary clichés, but a cast that still does well and enough atmosphere that works enough. Nice to hear Maggot Brain in the film, the makers have a nice taste in music.

The film is doing well and it can hold the attention, but then the story has to land somewhere but it succeeds much less. The movie is better than the general verdict, but it hangs through working clichés and is nowhere memorable.
