Rübezahls Schatz plot
The mountain spirit Rübezahl falls in love with the young girl Rosa. Blinded by love, he does not notice that the Baroness of Harrant wants to plunder his gold treasures in order to build a sawmill in the Giant Mountains. She blackmails Rosa with her secret love for hunter Montanus. In reality, however, Montanus is one of the four guises that Rübezahl assumes in order to be able to mingle with people as a protector of the mountains. As Rosa and Montanus grow closer, the Baroness' intrigues grow. She unravels the secret that a magical spring flower gives access to Rübezahl's treasure trove and can hardly wait for the time to come. Rübezahl, meanwhile, is more distracted by his romantic affairs than doing justice to his role as a guard over land and people.
