Volleyball player Caroline "Line" Found dies in an accident, leaving her family, friends and school inconsolable. Her team also suffers enormously from the loss and, moreover, the girls are no longer as sharp as before. They lose the next games until their coach Kathy has had enough. She does everything she can to boost the girls and get the best out of themselves.

In 1991, Caroline Felt died in a moped accident. She was the captain of the college volleyball team, respected in her sport and loved in her hometown. This film focuses on the way in which three important people struggle with their suffering and try to get back on track with pain and difficulty. Caroline's father Ernie [William Hurt], who shortly after Caroline's death also has to deal with the loss (after a long illness) of his wife [Jillian Fargey]; soulmate Kelley [Erin Moriarty] who now also has to carry the burden of the entire volleyball team; and Caroline's committed coach Kathy [Helen Hunt], who tries with all her might to motivate her team to take up their sport again. In the wrong hands this could have resulted in a sentimental dragon, but Moriarty holds his own among the craftsmanship of veterans Hurt and Hunt. And in the few scenes she has, Danika Yarosh leaves an indelible impression as Caroline. After a strong first hour, the predictable denouement follows, but McNamara knows how to provide the volleyball scenes (rarely shown in a film) with a visual dynamic that sufficiently holds the attention. Stick around during the credits for archive footage of the main characters in this inspiring sports drama.

“Live Like Line”. I think that would have been a more appropriate title for this sports film, which is a tribute to the captain of a college volleyball team who died in an accident. It is a typical American drama that regularly pushes sentimental boundaries. I did not experience that as disturbing.

Despite the drama, this film is very sweet. That's quite a shame, because with a little more depth this could have been an interesting drama. As we are used to, cheesy music dictates to us as viewers how we should feel. But me, it usually happens with some regularity that I shed a good tear.
However, this forced Hollywood film fails. The misery doesn't cut deep enough and the victory of the team that scores a point, well, it's a bit thin to really get emotionally involved in this film. That's a shame because the actors are good, the story is interesting, all the ingredients for an above-average film were present.
The direction of the volleyball matches was well done and the matches became quite exciting. An excellent three star film.
