Kalès plot
Filmmaker Laurent Van Lancker's only direct commentary on what he's been filming for a year is the opening quote from Dante's Inferno: "It's so bitter that death is hardly worse." Then he lets the camera do the talking with his dark shots in the illegal refugee camp near Calais, which has come to be known colloquially as 'The Jungle'. While the sea breeze tears the tents made of garbage bags to shreds again and again, the inhabitants try to justify their existence.
