Out of dissatisfaction with the 'bourgeois' aspects of the gay movement and the increasingly macho content of the punk scene in the 1980s, homocore emerged in Toronto – a contraction of homosexual and hardcore. Queercore: How to Punk a Revolution documents the genesis of this anarchic, alternative punk gay culture. This one embraced the DIY attitude of punk: making its own fanzines, independently distributing its own records and inventing and inventing its own aesthetic and revolutionary gay politics.
