Nice Shimomura.

But not as good as his previous work. It's unfortunately a bit too grey for that. To be honest, it seems to me by design, so that all attention goes to the action itself, but then again it's just not spectacular enough for that.

The action itself is pretty cool and abundant. Tak Sakaguchi is a perfect lead for a movie like this, there is quite a bit of killing. But most of his opponents are anonymous fodder, the rest is pretty boring. Where Death Trance was full of crazy characters, here you only have the child killer who stands out.

Visually it is also a bit grey. The action is beautifully captured, the rest is rather colourless and fleeting. This leaves a film that offers a chunk of fine action, but nothing more than that. Shimomura and Tak do their utmost to keep it interesting, and they succeed, but that's about it. Next time we should aim for something more, both gentlemen are quite capable of that.

3.5*

Nice action film. The story is simple and serves purely as a coat rack for a nice portion of violence. Too bad that there wasn't more energy put into it because it lends itself quite well to some mystery and suspense and could have lifted the film to a higher level. The action is variable. There are some tight scenes, especially the scene in the beginning on the square. Towards the second half it becomes very monotonous and it's not that interesting anymore. Visually everything is beautifully and expertly portrayed. 3.0
