American boy Kalief Browder was imprisoned from the age of 16 to 18 in the Rikers Island Detention Center in New York. He was suspected of stealing a backpack, something he has always denied. When he came out after three years, he was psychologically broken. He had been mistreated, starved and had been in solitary for 700 days. Once outside, he tried to get legal redress, but New York State wouldn't budge.
