The Private Life of a Modern Woman plot

"Truth comes at a price."

The data is situated in present-day New York City. At the center is Vera, a woman considered the best actress in the world, and her struggle to fulfill appearances and personal life responsibilities. She turns down a starring role in an upcoming project from the most renowned new director in Hollywood because she doesn't think she can realistically kill anyone on screen. Vera's coke-addicted ex-boyfriend then drops by and Vera does exactly what she said she couldn't do.

Apparently, I am the first (and probably the last) to have an opinion on this. In one word: worthless. I give many films a chance and am willing to watch them all the way through, but with this one, I was glad it only lasted 71 minutes. Messy and overly long intro with music that got boring very quickly. Vague story with equally vague dialogue. Skip this 'drama'.

Fascinating painting. The rest of the film was hardly less still life. Somewhere, there is undoubtedly a sublime message hidden within, certainly given the part with the grandfather with Alzheimer's and the brief homage to Inspector Columbo. But I would gladly let someone else spoon-feed that to me.

Oh yes, stripped away from the opening and closing credits, this film doesn't reach a full hour, about 55 minutes at most. That was, however, the most positive thing about it.

RIP Charles Grodin, whom I know mainly from Beethoven. He deserved a better final film.
