It's really nothing special. Whether you have an artificial eye with night vision or are looking at everything through a camera lens, it's still just a kind of found footage film, of which there are so many others. While it's not technically found footage, you see many scenes live through Matt's eyes.

After a clichéd opening, you see an uninteresting cast partying in a cabin in the woods. What quickly becomes apparent is the appalling acting and the complete lack of any sympathy for them. Fortunately, a meteorite hits, and the fun can begin... with the running back and forth through the dark woods. A la Blair Witch. It's really only fun for a short while, and aside from a few interesting discoveries, it doesn't really get exciting.

It gets a bit more enjoyable towards the end with a reasonably well-designed alien, but otherwise there's very little gore or notable kills. And then there's a touching premise, but it doesn't resonate.

A found-footage film. This means plenty of camera shake, crackling in the audio lines, and visual interference. The usual festivities. Nevertheless, the film manages to create a fairly mysterious and oppressive atmosphere.

The story itself is rather uninspiring. The creepy atmosphere, combined with a few well-timed jump scares, keeps the audience engaged.

The characters scream loudly and are not interesting in any way. There's no sympathy for them whatsoever. The acting, by the way, isn't great and even caused an unintentional fit of laughter at times.

The SFX are quite decent, especially for a low-budget film. The aliens at the heart of the action move a bit cartoonishly, but look strange and otherworldly enough. Nicely done.

Not a bad film, but also not something that will leave you in a great mood of jubilation or something that you will talk about for a long time.

Director Mathieu Ratthe pulls off some remarkably detailed computer effects and comes up with a perfect concept, but the sequel is so messy and bizarrely poorly written that all those positive points are almost immediately undone. The dialogue, in particular, is utterly inhuman and, moreover, grossly underperformed by the cast (which Ratthe himself is a member of), and the horror scenes are lacking in tension. It's also a huge missed opportunity not to have all the footage take place from that filming eyeball; unfortunately, now another uninteresting sidekick with a camera has to run around, adding all sorts of superfluous minutes. By the end, your attention will most likely have completely waned, but a few moments in between are quite impressively put together.
